Q.

Can quahogs shrink after harvest?

I haven’t been able to find any references to quahogs shrinking post harvest, nor is clam harvesting my area of expertise, so I’m not sure. I doubt it’s possible for the shell to shrink, but I could see the quahog clam meat shrinking, depending on how the clam was handled, if it started to dry out.

They’re also likely to shrink while cooking, due to the expulsion of moisture as the clam’s proteins coagulate.
