Q.

Can I reuse palm leaf plates?

A.

Our eco-friendly palm leaf plates are designed to be disposable/compostable after a single use.  However, they are so durable that we have heard from several customers that they sometimes reuse them by cleaning with a sponge and rack drying.  We recommend reusing them only with care.

If you’ve previously served dry foods (like baked goods) that leave crumbs you can easily clean off with soap and water, you’re probably fine.  Just keep in mind that some food can get stuck in the grooves or even absorbed into the plate.  We don’t recommend reusing plates you’ve used for meats, poultry, fish, or other food that can leave bacterial or other contamination.  It’s probably better to use fresh plates when guests are over too, they’ll look better.

Use your judgment, and when in doubt err on the side of being cautious.  When washing them, be aware that soaking the plates will eventually soften & warp them.  They are not dishwasher safe.
