Unfortunately, food processors are not suitable for milling flour because they are designed to chop rather than grind. While it may be possible to run the processor long enough to eventually get whole grains like emmer berries broken down, the tiny individual pieces will be of uneven size (unsuitable for use as a flour) and in the process the hard grain will dull or even damage your food processor blades. You may even burn out your motor. In contrast, a mill actually grinds grain with a hard, blunt surface that will not dull, producing consistently fine-textured flour. – Question Submitted by Jennifer Post your comment here:2 Responses to “Can I grind emmer into flour using my food processor, or do I have to use a mill?” |
Can you recommend a grain mill that can make it like grits or flour?

I’m afraid we haven’t ground emmer in our test kitchen yet, so I can’t recommend a specific mill from experience. If you want to skip that step, we do offer pre-ground emmer flour and cracked emmer cereal.
